Liberal Democrats in Southwark have called for the council to look into using the site of an old car pound to provide land for a new school, given the huge shortage of school places across the borough.
Councillor Tim McNally, Southwark Liberal Democrats’ spokesperson for Finance and Resources, has now written to the Cabinet member for regeneration asking her to consider the proposal.
Cllr McNally says in the letter: “Given the serious shortage of primary school places in the north of the borough, particularly in the area surrounding Mandela Way, I would be grateful to be informed of the steps the council has taken to asses the potential to use the site as the location of a new school.”
The Lib Dems have also been pushing for a new school in Dulwich in the south of the borough.
